30,000 on NHS diet to reverse diabetes

Patients weaned on to healthy eating after 12 weeks of soups and shakes

A RECORD number of patients have been put on 12-month food replacement diets by the NHS to reverse Type 2 diabetes.

More than 30,000 patients will ditch normal food for soups, shakes and bars for 12 weeks, then they will be slowly weaned back on to healthy food.

One in three put their Type 2 diabetes into remission, something which was once thought impossible.

Some 13,000 people were enrolled on to the NHS Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme in 2024-25, up from 6401 the previous year.
