WOMAN 'JUST ACCEPTED I WAS GOING TO DIE' AS PARTNER STRANGLED HER

A woman has told how she felt like she would die when her former partner strangled her.

The victim was attacked by Joshua Maher on a trip to Cardiff.

The woman, who runs her own business, said she was left with post traumatic stress disorder from their relationship and she got counselling and therapy.

Maher, 34, of Penlon, Menai Bridge, was convicted of intentional strangulation in the incident in March last year. A judge at Caernarfon Crown Court yesterday said society and women in particular would be better protected if he were rehabilitated.

She gave him a 20-month jail term, suspended for 20 months.

He must attend 10 rehabilitation sessions and go on an accredited programme.

The court heard how the pair had been in a relationship. On March 2, 2024 they went to a birthday party in Plymouth then on to Cardiff.
