'Trent definitely deserves to be there because he's been part of an incredibly successful season'

ARNE SLOT insists Trent Alexander-Arnold deserves to be part of Liverpool's Premier League title celebrations this weekend - as he detailed the frank discussions held with the departing defender last summer.

'Trent definitely deserves to be there because he's been part of an incredibly successful season'

The Reds will be handed the trophy after tomorrow’s home game against Crystal Palace before a parade of the city the following day during which around a million people are expected to line the streets.

Alexander-Arnold was given a hostile reception by some supporters during the home game against Arsenal a fortnight ago, which was the first match since the 26-year-old confirmed he would leave when his contract expires at the end of the season with Real Madrid expected to be his next destination.

Slot opted not to use the right-back from the bench during the 3-2 defeat at Brighton on Monday and has yet to determine whether the England international will be handed minutes on Sunday.

But the Liverpool boss is adamant nothing should be allowed to overshadow the celebrations of the club lifting a record-equalling 20th championship.

“I haven't decided on that one yet but I think this should be a day that everybody is going to enjoy,” said Slot.
