'Strike price' deal moves windfarm plan forward

A MAJOR new windfarm off the coast of North Wales has taken a step forward after it secured a “strike price” with UK Government.

RWE had already secured the planning go ahead for Awel y Mor.

West of Gwynt-y-Mor - around 10km from Llandudno - the scheme would have a maximum of 50 turbines at a max height of 332 metres.

Now the project has secured a Contracts for Difference deal with UK Government in a competitive auction process.

RWE's Norfolk Vanguard East and Norfolk Vanguard West projects, as well as its two Dogger Bank South projects, all of which are located in the British North Sea, and its Awel y Mor project located in the Irish Sea secured 20-year CfDs at a strike price of £91.20 per megawatt hour (MWh).
