EFFORTS to salvage a fishing boat stranded on Anglesey’s coast have ended in failure.

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE Countryside and Tourism Editor

Eleven days ago, the 33ft vessel issued a Mayday call after striking rocks near Aberffraw.

A major rescue operation was launched but the three people on board were able to clamber to safety by themselves. Later, the Coastguard responded to a false alarm when a suspected collapsed person on board turned out to be only a suspiciously shaped mattress.

The Irish-built boat, based out of Holyhead, had drifted on to rocks at St Cwyfan’s, popularly known as the “Little Church in the Sea”.
