POLICE TSAR MAKES CASE FOR PROPOSED INCREASE

A POLICE chief says asking North Wales residents to pay an extra 50p a week for policing has not been “easy”.
Andy Dunbobbin, North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), will seek permission from the Police and Crime Panel to approve the increase.
It amounts to people living in a Band D property paying £26.10 a year more for the financial year 2026-27. Bills would be adjusted for those in smaller or larger homes.
Mr Dunbobbin says the decision to propose the rise “was not easy” amid a cost-of-living crisis.
About half the money for the police budget in North Wales comes from the UK Government and the rest comes from council tax.
The amount of council tax depends on the precept levied by the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The amount that will be received from the Government to help fund policing is still to be fully clarified.
However, if funding is available, the PCC says he hopes to invest in areas such as:
