RESIDENTS OF TINY VILLAGE FEEL 'VULNERABLE'

AN online petition has been launched against the planned conversion of a care home.

Worried residents in the tiny village of Sydallt, Wrexham, said the prospect raises “multiple concerns”.

Planning consent is being sought from Wrexham Council to turn Oak Alyn Hall into a 28-room House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO). Before closing in December 2023, it operated as a 20-bed care home for up to 23 elderly residents.

When the application was considered by Gwersyllt Community Council on Wednesday night (January 14), the meeting was packed with anxious residents voicing concerns. A subsequent petition has so far attracted more than 750 signatures.

Petition comments highlighted the size of the village - in the 2011 UK census Sydallt had a population of just 422 - and the impact on local services.
