Diet 'still key' amid drive for weight loss

FOCUSING too much on losing weight instead of improving dietary habits will not help tackle obesity in the long term, a leading nutrition expert has warned.

Tim Spector, a genetic epidemiologist and creator of nutrition app Zoe, told The Times he is concerned the NHS and Government are failing to educate patients on nutrition.

It follows UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting's decision in October 2024 to introduce new weight-loss medicines such as Mounjaro to tackle obesity and ease costs to the health service.

"If we only obsess over weight then we’re missing half the problem," Dr Spector, 67, told The Times.
