Council makes statement on collapse of developer

A council has explained why it won't be left out of pocket after the collapse of a developer. Penrhyn Ltd was involved in the redevelopment of land around the Civic Hall in Colwyn Bay - with charges lodged against land to the east of the former council offices.

Conwy council vacated the Grade II Listed site and a number of other locations when staff moved to Coed Pella in the centre of Colwyn Bay in December 2018. Part of the Civic site was sold in August 2021 for a housing development.

The building and its curtilage was then sold to Parc Eirias Hotel Ltd - with Robert Andrew Roberts and Ian Robbins as directors. They had plans for a hotel scheme but have since sold the development on after the costs of transformation spiralled.

Mr Roberts is also the sole director at Penrhyn Ltd.
