Blasts at city sub-stations kill 3 people

THE eThekwini Municipality has confirmed another fatal explosion related to suspected electrical infrastructure theft.

Yesterday, there were reports of a fatal explosion at a substation at 873 South Coast Road in Jacobs, where one person died.

Theft and vandalism was suspected to be the cause of the explosion, which resulted in a power outage and the electricity supply via the substation was expected to be restored.

The municipality's Energy Management Directorate expressed concern as this was the second such incident this week, where theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure claimed lives.

The previous incident occurred in the Isipingo area.
