Poundland 'to be offloaded' as trading woes & tax hikes bite

THOUSANDS of staff at 825 Poundland branches face an uncertain future as the stricken discount chain is put up for sale.

Bosses say tough high street trading and impending tax rises mean they are "actively evaluating all strategic options" to offload Poundland, including a possible sale.

Many of the stores are in costly, large town centre shops, including former branches of Woolworths, which collapsed in 2009, and old stores of Wilko, which failed in 2023.

Polish owner Pepco Group insisted Poundland is still a "strong brand that serves millions of customers every week", with sales of £1.67billion last year.
