Hojgaard secures Cup place

RASMUS Hojgaard secured an automatic qualifying spot for the European Ryder Cup team - as Sweden's Alex Noren held his nerve to take a one-shot victory in the British Masters at The Belfry.

Hojgaard made sure of his spot in the team at Bethpage next month with a closing round of 71 to finish on eight under par and a share of 13th place.

And while he replaces Shane Lowry in the top six guaranteed a spot in the team, the Irishman is certain to be among six wildcards.

Team Europe captain Luke Donald names his wildcard choices a week today, with the US naming theirs on Wednesday.
