Sam is clearly comfortable in his own skin and rightly so, after a managerial career including Bolton, Leeds, Newcastle, West Ham and England.

But he is not looking for a return to football. "Never say never, but I'm not actively looking," he says. "I'm into my podcast, No Tippy Tappy football. The podcasting has been very exciting indeed. I do my League Managers Association committee and leadership stuff, I do Q&As.

"Then I've got the opportunity with my wife [Lynne] to discover places we've never seen. It's nice to be able to jump on a plane when you feel like it.
