Cartel man jailed over cocainé haul

A GREAT-GRANDAD who worked as a mule for one of the country's most feared drug cartels has been jailed for more than seven years.

Malcolm Hoyland, 80, claimed he was only trying to help his son Richard, who had been diagnosed with the neurological condition Huntington's disease.

Both he and Richard Hoyland, 49, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine.

The pair's point of contact with the Irish Byrne organised crime group was a man named only as Mr Miyagi, after the elderly mentor in the Karate Kid movies.
