Ukrainian Illia wins place at top uni three years after fleeing Kyiv hell

A WAR refugee who fled Ukraine to live in a British seaside town has won a place at Oxford University.

Illia Chkheidze, 20, left Kyiv with his family three years ago and moved to Rhyl in North Wales.

Despite the upheaval, he managed to juggle his studies with volunteering to help other displaced Ukrainian families who settled in the area.

He has now been offered a place at Oxford to study a politics, philosophy and economics degree later this year.
