Recent figures reveal UK unemployment rose to 5% in the three months leading up to September 2025, up from 4.8%. According to data from the Office for National Statistics, the number of employees on payrolls in September 2025 fell by 117,000 compared to a year ago. You say...

I BELIEVE our lack of employment stems back to when this country became a buyer, not a maker of products.

For years, countries have allowed China to export products that we used to manufacture at a price we couldn't meet because the Chinese government subsidised them. In doing so, our manufacturers went bust. Young people starting out will have a hard time getting work because no one actually makes anything these days, unlike when I left school in 1968.

Arch-capitalist Henry Ford once said to his workforce that he could sack them all, and replace them with machines. The union steward is said to have replied, “but Mr Ford, you need to pay us so we can buy your cars!”

Al is set to bring more job losses. The only solution to keep the economy afloat is to introduce Universal Basic Income to give people spending power and prevent a global economic crash, like we witnessed in 1929.
