Flood victim's home lacked real defences

THERE were no proper flood defences protecting the home of an 83-year-old woman who drowned in flooding during Storm Babet, an inquest heard.
Maureen Gilbert's son found her "floating in the water" in October 2023, at her home in Chesterfield, Derbys, after the River Rother burst its banks.
