'Beasts' roaming town turned out to be, er, dogs

- PHIL CARDY

ROAMING the streets of a Lancashire town, their howls of horror spread fear far and wide...

Locals in Preston were convinced they had spotted a pack of wolves and called police.

Given the animals became extinct in Britain around 1680, it was a fair bet they were mistaken course, they were.

The three "wolf-type" creatures turned out to be dogs, although they do have a passing resemblance to the wild beasts.

Police dog handlers captured them in the Barton area of the town on Thursday which gave the force the opportunity to churn out some dodgy puns.
