CORRIE STAR'S LEAP FROM TESCO TO DREAM JOB

I'm the complete opposite of Betsy I'm a bit boring

- BY SUE CRAWFORD

On screen she thinks nothing of getting drunk, skipping work, staying out all night and fighting with her mum.

Betsy Swain recently spent a night in the cells and has colluded with criminals and even falsely planted evidence.

But Corrie star Sydney Martin says she is actually the exact opposite of her feisty character - "a bit boring".

Sydney, 24, says: "I was very well behaved as a teenager. I think my parents count themselves lucky.

"I'm a bit of a grandma! I don't go out drinking very often. Most of the time I'm sat in front of the telly snuggled up watching Celebrity Traitors or something like that.

"I'm not a massive partygoer. I get all that out at work. When I come home, all I want to do is get my jammies on, sit under a blanket and watch the telly."

Sydney joined the show last year as the troubled teenage daughter of detective sergeant Lisa Swain.

She was living in a flatshare in Manchester and working in Tesco when she received the call from her agent confirming she had landed her dream job. The next morning, she handed in her notice.

Sydney admits: "I told Tesco I was joining Coronation Street before I told my mum and dad. I don't think they were best impressed. I couldn't even do my last few shifts."
