TUC chief calls for 'a sense of optimism.. and for wealthy to pay for services

THE head of Britain's trades union movement has said wealthier people must face higher taxes.

TUC chief Paul Nowak said he had "real concerns" over Chancellor Rachel Reeves' plans to means-test the winter fuel allowance for 10 million pensioners.

Calling for help in next month's Budget for pensioners just above the eligibility threshold, he urged the government to tax the wealthy to level the playing field for workers.

But he insists there are reasons to be cheerful, as he urged Keir Starmer to draw on a "sense of optimism".
