Bangladesh ex-leader's son back for PM bid

THE son of the former prime minister of Bangladesh has arrived home after more than 17 years in self-imposed exile.

Tarique Rahman is a frontrunner to become the nation's next leader in the election on February 12 and has pledged to work for a safe country.

The 60-year-old moved to London in 2008 for medical treatment with permission, after he was tortured while in custody during a military-backed government that ruled from 2006 to 2008.
