FCCISL Recent Work: Empowering the Tourism Sector through Skills Development and Inclusive Growth
Daily Mirror - Sri Lanka
|September 25, 2025
The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), as the apex body of the private sector, has been deeply committed to strengthening entrepreneurship, developing vocational skills, and fostering inclusive economic participation.
-
In line with this mission, FCCISL has recently led two landmark projects in collaboration with international partners, the Skills for Inclusive Growth (S4IG) Project with the Australian Government, and the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Project with the International Labour Organization (ILO).
These initiatives have not only upgraded workforce skills but also transformed small businesses and homestays across Sri Lanka's tourism value chain, creating a lasting impact on local communities.
Skills for Inclusive Growth (S4IG) - Tourism Sector Development Project
Implemented in partnership with the Australian Government, the S4IG project became a flagship FCCISL initiative to promote inclusive economic growth in Sri Lanka's tourism sector.
The project particularly targeted small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), homestays, and rural communities, ensuring that the benefits of tourism are shared more widely across the country.
Key Achievements:
Upskilling local entrepreneurs and workers in hospitality management, customer service, and sustainable tourism practices.
Supporting small hotels and homestays to integrate into the broader tourism value chain.
Promoting community-based tourism, enabling rural areas to actively benefit from the tourism economy.
