Chilaw Marians CC, Colts and Badureliya CC register wins

CHILAW Marians CC, Colts and Badureliya CC recorded outright victories in the SLC Under 23 Emerging Club 2-day tournament matches concluded yesterday, whereas the remaining eight matches ended in draws with teams picking up points in the first innings.

Chilaw Marians CC thrashed Navy SC by an innings and 75 runs at Welisara. Navy SCs batting was destroyed for 111 in the first innings by the left-arm spin of Irushika Thimira (6/35 off 20 overs) and for 193 by the right-arm leg-spin of Melan Hansaka (7/65 off 17.1 overs). Only opener Uvindu Perera stood tall for the sailors with 60 off 77 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes) in the second innings. Chilaw Marians CC scored 379.

Colts and Badureliya CC won by similar margins by 9 wickets. Former Isipathana College opener Randunu Ganganath carried his bat out for 128* off 186 balls (12 fours, 3 sixes) in Colts’ first innings total of 260-7 declared. Leo CC trailing by 120 runs were bowled out for 165 in their second innings by leg-spinner Praveen Maneesha (5/36 off 12.2 overs) leaving Colts the formality of scoring 46 for victory which they achieved playing on their home turfat Colts grounds.

United Southern SC’s batting collapsed twice for 125 and following-on for 175 to the left-arm spin of Brian Hansaja who finished with a match bag of 8/121 and off-spinner Sharon Abishek (4/30) in reply to Badureliya CC's first innings of 253. Left with 48 to chase, Badureliya CC lost one wicket in getting there in their match concluded at Army grounds, Dombagoda. Viranga Yeshan carried his bat out for 87 (125 balls, 7 fours) in United Southern SC’s second innings.
