Woman, 72, unwittingly paid neighbour's electricity bill for years after supplier's blunder

A RETIRED midwife whose electricity bills soared to over £400 a month despite switching off her heating discovered she had been paying for a neighbouring family's bills for several years due to a crossed meter.

Judith Stenner, 72, had been trying everything possible to reduce her usage after her supplier ScottishPower told her she was a "high energy user".

She rarely cooked, got a new immersion heater and endured cold winters in her Manchester flat but still her bills kept rising.

In despair, her daughter Semra Kurutac passed the issue to Judith's MP, Afzal Khan, who raised her case in the House of Commons, where Leader of the House Penny Mordaunt condemned the "appalling situation".
