WOLVES MAUL THE WOUNDED LYON TAMERS

MANCHESTER UNITED were always in line for a letdown after the late drama of their epic Europa League comeback against Lyon.

Nothing could come close to matching that nine-goal thriller, in which United scored three times late in extra time to reach the semi-finals.

They predictably fell flat against Wolves, who took full advantage of United's European hangover, courtesy of a stunning 77th-minute free-kick from substitute Pablo Sarabia, just three minutes after coming on.

For Vitor Pereira's side, this was a fifth successive league win, their best run since 1970, and ensured they completed a first league double over United since 1980.

Defeat for United means they have lost 15 times in the league this season, the most since 1990 and further proof of the task facing manager Ruben Amorim.
