US fugitive who faked death set for prison

AN American fugitive who faked his death and fled to Britain to avoid prosecution for rape faces a potential life sentence after being found guilty.

Nicholas Rossi, 38, was convicted by a jury in Utah following a three-day trial.

The proceedings saw his accuser and her parents give evidence in a case dating back more than 15 years. He will be sentenced on October 20 and is due to stand trial in September for a separate rape allegation.

Under state law, first-degree felony rape carries a penalty of five years to life in prison.
