Tragic headteacher's sister calls for Ofsted changes to be delayed

THE sister of a headteacher who took her own life after an Ofsted report has joined calls for proposed changes to school inspections to be delayed.

Ruth Perry, 53, died by suicide in January 2023 after the watchdog downgraded her Caversham Primary School in Reading to the lowest overall effectiveness rating over safeguarding concerns.

Her sister Professor Julia Waters has now joined school leaders and former inspectors who said there were “real concerns” the proposals could drive “excessive pressure, ill-health and stress” for education professionals.
