Tanks roll in as Israel defies pleas to end Rafah onslaught

Amid growing international condemnation of a weekend attack that killed 45 people, a defiant Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue his nation's war against Hamas.

Despite admitting Sunday's strike had been a "tragic mishap", the Israeli prime minister warned: "I don't intend to end the war before every goal has been achieved."

But he added that it was vital that Israel took "every precaution possible" to protect civilians and insisted that the Israel Defence Forces were using their "best efforts not to harm those uninvolved" in the conflict.

Witnesses in Rafah said Israeli tanks had seized control of a key roundabout in the heart of the city.
