EMMA Stone failed to kick off awards season with an acting gong- but as she's Oscar-tipped, no fellow star was thinking "Poor Thing".

The 35-year-old wore a pale pink dress with ribbon criss-cross detail to the glitzy gala in Los Angeles.

Emma is up for a potential second Academy Award for her performance in bawdy sci-fi comedy Poor Things.

But while her pitch-perfect whimsical gown would not have looked out of place on her character Bella Baxter, she left the Directors Guild Awards empty-handed.
