Sopranos stalwart left it late

BEST known as the quietly ruthless loan shark Herman “Hesh” Rabkin in the hugely successful and critically acclaimed TV drama The Sopranos, fame came late to Jerry Adler.

He played the character across all six seasons of the series about New Jersey Mafia boss Tony Soprano, who suffers from panic attacks as he tries to balance his criminal career with his family life.

Adler was also known for his appearances in numerous films, such as Woody Allen's Manhattan Murder Mystery, The Public Eye, In Her Shoes, Prime, and for TV roles such as Howard Lyman in The Good Wife.
