Sophie is moved to tears by ordeal of veteran, 105

Sophie, 60, took tea and cake with Jim at his Salisbury care home yesterday and heard about his bravery during the Second World War.

He told the Duchess, who is patron of the Java Far East Prisoner of War Club 1942, about Japanese torpedoes sinking his ship before he was later captured and held in a brutal PoW camp.

Her visit to Old Sarum Manor Care Home came in the run-up to the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on Friday.

Honour

Sophie said: "Very nice to meet you, thanks for having me. It's my honour to meet you."
