Union ballots despite 'highest' pay rise

RESIDENT doctors have warned of co-ordinated industrial action with consultants and specialist colleagues from next month.

The physicians until recently known as junior doctors are being balloted by the British Medical Association for strike action that could last six months.

They are angry over the Government's pay rise offer of an average 5.4%, which is 1.9% above inflation.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has urged them to vote against the action, with almost half of the public also opposed.

But the co-chairs of the BMA's resident doctors committee are calling on members in England to vote for the strikes whilst warning they will be "immensely disruptive for patient care".
