Police boss: Seize and crush e-scooters being used on public roads

E-SCOOTERS ridden illegally on roads should be "seized and crushed", says a police and crime commissioner.

It is forbidden to use privately owned vehicles on public roads. Riders face fines and having the device impounded.

However, few are aware of the ban and there are hundreds of thousands of unlicensed e-scooters.

Matthew Scott, Kent's police and crime commissioner, fears riders are "effectively decriminalised".

He wants his force's officers to grab and destroy those being ridden on public roads and land following a pilot scheme in the county.

Mr Scott told his force's crime commission: "The panel knows my view on e-scooters seize them and crush them because they are not legal on any public land in Kent now that we don't have the trial down at Canterbury.
