PM FACES CALLS TO DITCH EUROPEAN COURTS

Tory MPs, furious at blocks on bids to end the migration crisis, want him to use his speech at the party conference to address their growing concerns about the role of Convention on the European Human Rights.

Quitting it would heap pressure on Strasbourg judges to stop intervening in domestic policy. The court grounded the first UK flight that was to deport migrants to Rwanda at the 11th hour in June last year, as ministers tried to tackle the Channel boats crisis.

The Home Office will maintain at the UK's Supreme Court next month that the flagship scheme is legal. Officials hope that the flights to the east African country's capital Kigali will start early next year.

Loathsome

Former Brexit minister David Jones told the Daily Express: "The European Convention on Human Rights and the UN Refugee Convention were both made over 70 years ago. It was a different age, long before organised criminals started engaging in the loathsome business of people trafficking.
