A VIDEO shared by Donald Trump's social media account depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes drew a huge backlash and was condemned as racist before it was finally removed.

The US president used his Truth Media platform to share a video about election conspiracy theories. It included a short clip of the former president and first lady as primates in the jungle.

The shocking clip shows the couple as Al-generated figures grinning and dancing to The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

The video sparked widespread criticism, with California’s Democrat governor Gavin Newsom describing it as “disgusting behaviour”.

Mr Newsom added: “Every single Republican must denounce this. Now.”
