OAP group wants age-related tax allowance

RACHEL Reeves should reintroduce an age-related personal allowance for older people to protect the state pension from tax, a campaigner has suggested.

Reeves has insisted no one whose only income is the state pension will have to pay tax during this Parliament.

Dennis Reed, of Silver Voices, said the Chancellor was in a mess after extending a freeze on the lower tax threshold.

This policy means from 2027, the level of the new state pension will exceed the frozen personal allowance of £12,570.
