Nuclear test vets to take legal action against MoD
Daily Express
|September 21, 2023
MILITARY veterans who took part in nuclear weapons tests are planning a legal battle against the Ministry of Defence in a bid to force it to hand over their medical records.
They say they have suffered cancer and other serious illnesses, and have even lost children since attending the trials in the 1950s and 60s. Some of their descendants say they were born with disabilities as a result.
Now they plan to take legal action against the MoD for withholding medical records which they say could have lessened their "trauma and anguish".
Frightened
More than 20,000 military personnel attended the UK's nuclear tests in Australia and the South Pacific between 1952 and 1967.
