Madeleine mum's 'stalker' anguish: A little bit of my brain was saying 'What if?'

THE mother of Madeleine Mccann told a court yesterday that part of her was saying "What if?" when a woman claimed to be her missing daughter.

Kate McCann said Julia Wandelt's "incessant" messages left a "little niggle" about doing a DNA test.

Wandelt, 24, and Karen Spragg, 61, of Caerau, Cardiff, deny stalking, causing serious alarm and distress to Mrs McCann and her husband Gerry from June 2022 to February this year.

At Leicester Crown Court, Wandelt screamed: "Why are you doing this to me?" when Mrs McCann told of her distress at beingconfronted by the alleged stalker outside her home, calling her "Mum".

Prosecutors say Wandelt, from Lubin, Poland, peddled the myth that she was Madeleine, who went missing aged three during a family holiday in Portugal in 2007.

The court heard she stalked the McCanns by bombarding them with emails, making phone calls and turning up at their home in Rothley, Leicestershire.
