Pub gives discounts to cash-paying customers

A PUB landlord is offering his customers a discount for paying with cash as he fights back against soaring bank charges.

Alan Davies, 53, said card payments cost him roughly £5 for every £50 spent and the total outlay is enough to hire another member of staff.

So locals at the Trumpet Inn, near Ledbury, Herefordshire, now get 5% off food and drink if they opt for cash. For example, a £6 pint costs £5.70 with cash.

Alan, who also owns The Moon at nearby Mordiford, said: “The banks aren’t doing anything for this money. A lot of small businesses are struggling so we've gone back to the old system like when I was young.
