Just Stop Oil pair's spray paint protest on Darwin's grave

CLIMATE change protesters attacked Charles Darwin's Westminster Abbey grave with orange chalk paint yesterday. Just Stop Oil said that two people sprayed "1.5 is dead" on the Victorian naturalist's memorial. They were reportedly heard saying: "2024 was the hottest year on record. We have passed the 1.5 degree threshold that was supposed to keep us safe."

JSO said retired teaching assistant Alyson Lee, 66, of Derby, and ex-Reading Council chief executive Di Bligh, 77, from Rode, Somerset were involved.

Police said two women were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage "with what is believed to be powdered paint".
