'Israel and Hamas fix ceasefire to end war'

A GAZA ceasefire was agreed last night, bringing real hope of an end to Israel's 15-month war with Hamas.

The initial pause will last six weeks, during which 33 of the nearly 100 hostages held by Hamas will be released. In exchange, hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israel will be freed.

The truce will include a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from central Gaza and allow hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return to what remains of their homes.
