JUDE BELLINGHAM has been touted to become the “best midfielder in the world” – by an England teammate reluctant to shower him with praise.
It is somewhat touching when a 22-year-old starlet such as Phil Foden, who has been wrapped in cotton wool throughout his development at Manchester City, suddenly sounds like a protective big brother.
“I don’t want to big Jude up because he’s still young,” Foden said after the pair had combined to rip Senegal unceremoniously to pieces.
However, after some performances, you just cannot help yourself.
“But he’s one of the most gifted players I’ve ever seen,” Foden continued. “I don’t see any weaknesses in his game. I think he’s got everything and I’m sure he’s going to be the best midfielder in the world.” Bellingham, in turn, picked out one of the old guys for praise – 32-year-old Jordan Henderson, who got things underway with the opening goal.
