TYRRELL HATTON made history at St Andrews when he became the first player to be crowned Dunhill Links champion three times.

In doing so, the Englishman winner 32-year-old of the £3.75million event in 2016 and 2017 - denied Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts a fairy-tale comeback after five years without a DP World Tour victory.

It all came down to Hatton's threefoot putt at the last hole for a birdie and a one-shot triumph, after the leading duo had walked up the 18th tied on 23 under par.

After Colsaerts, 41, had been forced to watch his birdie effort from eight feet miss the target, hitman Hatton stepped up to coolly gun down his rival.
