Keeper saves day again as Palace expose leaky Reds

- By Chris McKenna

LIVERPOOL can take comfort in the fact the winner of the Community Shield has not gone on to win the big one in May for the past six years.

But this will irk Reds head coach Arne Slot that they suffered more Wembley woe following a Carabao Cup loss here to Newcastle in March.

Yet for Crystal Palace it was joy at the national stadium for the second time in 85 days. In May, of course, they beat big guns Manchester City to lift the FA Cup.

Keeper Dean Henderson was a penalty hero that day as he denied Omar Marmoush.

He was at it again here, this time in a shootout as Palace upset the odds.

It was a tip of the cap from the Palace shot-stopper when he pulled off a great save to deny Alexis Mac Allister, but it was those watching who should have been doffing their hats out of respect for the keeper. It was a fine save.
