CAPTAIN ITOJE HAILS THE INFLUENCE OF PAL JAMIE
MARO ITOJE insisted he would not be the player he is today without the mentorship of Jamie George for the past dozen years.
Hooker George, who will lead England out against Italy tomorrow as he celebrates his 100th cap for the country, put an arm round a young Itoje at Saracens. Itoje has recognised the 34-year-old's influence as the former captain's number is still saved on his mobile as 'Jamie Under His Wing', which the lock believes remains true.
Itoje has gone on to be a two-time British and Irish Lions tourist, win three European Champions Cups with Saracens and a Six Nations Grand Slam, plus succeed George as England skipper, and he says that is down to the influence of the front rower.
The 30-year-old said: “I haven't changed what he saved his number as. It's 'Jamie Under His Wing'.
