World No.6 Fritz beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-3 6-4 in the Jimmy Connors group at the Inalpi Arena.

Twelve months on from finishing as runner-up - losing last year's final to Jannik Sinner - American Fritz was happy with his opening success.

Musetti was a late replacement for Novak Djokovic, who withdrew with an injured shoulder after beating the Italian in Athens on Saturday.
