Football fans getting a greater say to ensure clubs run sustainably

SHADY owners will be banned from taking over football clubs under a shake-up.

Clubs will also be banned from joining breakaway leagues such as the European Super League while supporters will be given a greater say.

The reforms are contained in new legislation on football governance which is being introduced in Parliament today.

They include an independent football regulator in England. This should ensure clubs are run sustainably.

It will enshrine a power of veto for fans on heritage matters, preventing owners from changing a club's name, stadium, badge or kit without supporter input.
