Every night I hear my son say 'Mummy, I can't breathe'

THE mother of a five-year-old who died after being sent home from A&E has said she hears her son every night crying: “Mummy, I can’t breathe.”

Yusuf Mahmud Nazir died after suffering multi-organ failure and cardiac arrests days after being discharged from an emergency care centre with a prescription for antibiotics.

A report says his mother’s instincts were “repeatedly not addressed” as she tried to get help for her sick boy.

Yusuf, who had asthma, was taken to a GP surgery after feeling unwell with a sore throat on November 15, 2022, and was prescribed antibiotics by an advanced nurse practitioner.

But later that evening his worried parents took him to Rotherham Hospital’s urgent and emergency care centre, where he was seen in the early hours after a six-hour wait.
