Doubt on whereabouts of foreign workers after visa expires

PRESSURE is mounting on the Home Office for not knowing if foreigners who have stayed in the UK after their visas expired, are working illegally or have been dragged into modern slavery.

A report into the skilled worker visa scheme warned there is "widespread evidence" of employees suffering "debt bondage, working excessive hours and exploitative conditions".

Some 931,000 skilled worker visas to overseas applicants, including dependants, were granted in the three years to April 2024.
