Alcaraz has twin celebration with Euro stars on his mind
CARLOS ALCARAZ hopes his Centre Court classic against Ugo Humbert will be a good omen for Spain's footballers in their Euro 2024 semi-final against France tomorrow night.
And, frankly, you would have to be off your Rioja to bet against a double Spanish triumph on Sunday - Alcaraz landing another title at Wimbledon and Luis de la Fuente's team being crowned kings of Europe.
In an exhilarating three-hour contest, seasoned with trick shots and impossible winners, the defending champion prevailed 6-3 6-4 1-6 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals.
But French No.1 Humbert gave Alcaraz all the trouble he could handle and the title holder's victory cry of "Vamos" was as much in relief as elation.
